Bodyshop Z4 at BMW Regensburg

SAR received the order to supply the complete electrics including robot programming for the BMW Z4 in the bodyshop plant 6.11 in Regensburg from TKDN Lockweiler.

The implementation took place with TKDN Ravensburg (now EBZ SysTec) under the auspices of TKDN Lockweiler. The total volume entailed 16 PLC's and 112 robots.

Profinet Safe

This system was the first one done completely in Profinet Safe. Profinet Safe enables the transmission of all signals, including the safety signals, over industrial Ethernet. By doing this, only one cable and one controller is needed. Siemens Simatic S7-416/3 DP controllers were used in this instance.

For more flexibility of movements, frequency drive controlled, motor driven swivels were used instead of pneumatic units.

Tight schedule

A very tight timing plan was the result of a very late decision for the location and the resulting concept changes in the controls to a Siemens system.

This, the shortest body shop project for SAR up to now, started in January 2008 with the installation date, whereas commissioning was planned to start in March. Virtual commissioning with WinMod also took place in January at TKDN in Heilbronn. Although there was a lot of pressure due to timing, SoP - Start of Production - was achieved on target in December 2008 and production has run without any hitches since then.
