Sun TV - Soccer Worldcup without the public grid

SAR South Africa has, in cooperation with Solarworld Africa, set up a Sun TV in the orphanage town of Bulembu, Swaziland.

Television utilizing photovoltaics

The Sun TV utilizes photovoltaic modules to charge a set of batteries. The stored energy ist used to run a LCD TV, a sat receiver and a DVD player. This allows the orphans to follow the worldcup without connection to the public grid. Afterwards the unit will be used for schooling purposes.

Just in time

Due to SAR only receiving the equipment the Tuesday before the worldcup starting, SAR reviewed it's name to "Search And Rescue", driving almost 400km north on Wednesday and installing the complete system on Thursday.

2 hours before the opening festivities on Friday everything was ready. A number of happy faces bore witness to the first live soccer pictures. Directly afterwards the match between South Africa and Mexico was viewed. A glorious conclusion to weeks of anticipation and a worthy contribution to the worldcup motto in South Africa "It is here!".

To be continued...

As a follow-up SAR received the request from Solar World to install a further system in the province of Limpopo.
